Is it Important to Cover Your RV in Storage

RV CoverSome RV Accessories can cost a great deal of money.  Nobody wants to spend money if they do not have to but sometimes it is a necessity.

Many RVs are in storage most of the year.  The  hot sun can cause damage to the paint.  Oxidation takes place.  The rain can cause the shield on the front of your RV to look rusty, and is very difficult to clean.  Sometimes the shield cracks and the rust color gets under the shield and ruins the paint.  That will not come off.  If the shield has to be taken off to get rid of the discoloration it will cost about $1,000.  Unfortunately removing the shield causes some of the paint to come off with it. Consequently the front of your RV has to be painted.  The total cost can very depending how much paint has to be used.  That does not include replacing the shield.

The life of the RV roof is shortened also.  In the hot areas of the US mildew becomes a problem. The roof has to be cleaned often. When there is mildew be sure to use a little bleach when washing.  After washing, treat the roof with a sealant.  Now, that is a job no one would look forward to!

Covering the tires is a must.  Tires exposed to the ultra violet rays of the sun will be damaged to the point that they will have to be replaced, even with good tread. That is an expense no one wants!

Puting a RV cover over your RV is like buying insurance.  You don’t want to do it,  because of the expense and effort needed to put it on your RV.  Believe me – The expense of the cover is minimal compared to replacing the roof and the need of a paint job.
